How an individual Family Constellation session works

An individual Family Constellation takes place between the facilitator and the participant (called the "constellator" or "client"), without the presence of a group. The goal remains the same: to make visible and transform the hidden dynamics of the family or relational system that affect the person's life. The difference lies in the way these dynamics are represented.

1 - Welcoming and defining the issue

The session begins with a moment of dialogue and listening. The facilitator helps the participant to clarify the issue they want to explore — for example, a relationship difficulty, an emotional block, a physical symptom, or a recurring theme in life. It is not necessary to tell the whole story, but to capture the energetic or emotional essence of the matter.

2 - Preparing the space and choosing the representation method

In an individual session, the people within the system (parents, children, partners, ancestors, or internal parts) are represented symbolically.

There are several ways to do this:

Sheets or cards: each sheet is dedicated to a member of the system, with their name or role written on it (e.g., “mother”, “father”, “me as a child”). The participant places them on the floor according to their intuition.
Objects or stones: small objects are chosen to represent the members or relevant elements.
Chairs or cushions: each chair represents a person; the participant can move from one to another to feel the corresponding energies or emotions.
Figures or images: symbolic cards, small figurines, or drawings are used.

3 - Observation and listening to the field

Once the sheets or objects are placed, the facilitator invites the participant to observe the arrangement: the distances, the directions, and the feelings that arise in relation to each element. Through small movements or careful questioning, hidden dynamics begin to emerge (interrupted bonds, exclusions, invisible loyalties, unresolved conflicts).

4 - Movement and transformation

The facilitator gently guides the person through a process of recognition and rebalancing.

This can happen through:

Moving the sheets or objects: to find a more harmonious arrangement;
Words of reconciliation or acceptance: which the participant can say out loud or internally;
Moments of silence, breathing, or bodily awareness: to integrate the emotions that arise.

The goal is to create a new inner order, where every member of the system finds their rightful place, allowing the person to feel freer and more at peace.

5 - Integration and closing

At the end, the participant observes the new arrangement and shares what they feel. The facilitator may offer a brief reflection or suggest a symbolic gesture for the following days (e.g., writing a letter, lighting a candle, making a drawing, etc.). The session concludes with a moment of centering and gratitude toward the system.

The facilitator guides the group through a process of awareness and rebalancing, helping to recognize and include the excluded or forgotten parts of the system. This can happen through the movements of the representatives, the redefinition of boundaries, symbolic reconciliation, or the expression of unprocessed emotions. The goal is not to "heal" or to "judge," but to bring light and recognition to what seeks to be seen within the system, fostering a new, more harmonious order.

5 - Reflection and integration

At the end of the constellation, the participant reflects on the experiences and insights gained. This moment supports the internal integration of change, bringing greater understanding and freedom in relationships with oneself and one’s personal history.

6 - Music and ritual instruments

The use of music, symbolic rituals, and shamanic instruments like the drum helps broaden perception and create a deeper connection with the roots of the issue, supporting a process of ongoing opening and transformation.
