Systemic Family Constellations
Systemic Family Constellations, created by Bert Hellinger, are a deep method of exploration and transformation that helps bring to light the hidden dynamics within the family system.
Often, without realizing it, we carry within us the emotions, destinies, and burdens of those who came before us.
Constellations help us recognize these invisible connections, honor them, and put them in their proper place, freeing us to live our lives fully.
Every person is part of a larger system — the family, the generations that came before, their experiences and choices.
To understand who we are and why we experience certain situations, we must look to the past: the stories, wounds, and loves of our ancestors continue to live within us until they are seen and acknowledged.
By resolving conflicts between generations, our soul evolves/emancipates, our beliefs change, our emotions shift, and everything manifests in conscious actions guided by strictly personal choices that allow a person to finally live their life successfully.
When what was unresolved finally finds peace, we can move into the present with ease and authenticity.
Origin and Foundations of the Method
Bert Hellinger, initially a priest and later a psychotherapist, developed this methodology after decades of work and observation with families and groups worldwide.
His approach emerged from the integration of several psychological and spiritual currents: classical psychology and psychotherapy (Jung, Freud, Adler), Moreno's psychodrama, Milton Erickson's hypnotic techniques, and systemic field theory.
He was also inspired by the psychogenealogy of Anne Ancelin Schützenberger and the studies of Alejandro Jodorowsky.
- The family as a living system The family is not a group of separate individuals, but an interconnected organism. Each member influences and is influenced by the others, and what remains unresolved in one generation often repeats in the generations that follow.
- Intergenerational connection Many difficulties in the present have roots in the experiences, pains, or traumas of our ancestors. Even if we have not experienced them ourselves, they can operate within us through emotions, beliefs, or recurring patterns of fate. Recognizing and acknowledging these connections helps release unconscious loyalties and restores each person to their own destiny.
- Belonging, order, and balance, which Hellinger called The Orders of Love Every person has the right to belong to their family system and to be recognized in their place. When someone is excluded, forgotten, or denied, the system loses its balance, and this disruption can manifest in descendants. Working with constellations restores natural harmony, giving each member their rightful place and reestablishing the flow of love.
- Morphic Field – the invisible memory of the system According to the theory of biologist Rupert Sheldrake, every living system has an energy field that stores its memory and information. In constellations, this field becomes visible through the sensations and emotions of the representatives, who come into contact with information beyond logical thought. It is a field of consciousness that contains everything that has happened in the system and makes visible what needs to be acknowledged and healed.
Family Field and System Consciousness
Every family has an “informed field,” a collective memory that passes through generations and stores its events, emotions, and destinies.
This field operates within us, often silently, influencing our choices, relationships, fears, or symptoms.
When we come into contact with this field through constellation work, we can recognize what no longer belongs to the present and lovingly return it to the past.
In this way, the individual regains their inner freedom.
And when one individual changes, the entire family tree begins to breathe differently.
Applications of Family Constellations
Family Constellations are used in various areas of personal, relational, and professional life. They can be a path of healing, self-awareness, or spiritual development.
- Family and Emotional Relationships Difficulties with parents, children, partners, or the family of origin can be understood and transformed by bringing light to the hidden dynamics that keep them alive.
- Emotional and Psychological Well-being Depression, anxiety, loneliness, or emotional blockages often have roots in past events or relationships that have not been integrated. Through awareness and reconciliation, a space of inner peace opens.
- Health and Physical Symptoms The body often expresses what the soul cannot speak. Constellations can help explore the connection between physical concerns and family memories, promoting a deep process of harmonization.
- Professional and Organizational Life Applied in work contexts, Systemic Constellations help understand roles, conflicts, and hidden dynamics within organizations, improving collaboration, balance, and leadership.
- Personal and Spiritual Development Beyond the therapeutic aspect, constellations are an inner journey of evolution. They help reconnect with roots, accept life as it is, and experience a deep sense of belonging, where every story can finally find its place.
